It was my elder sister’s 40th birthday on the 11th of May, and she launched a clothing line @orchidfashionsng, an NGO aimed at women empowerment and a book.
The event took place at Glam hall, Maitama, Abuja. Dress code was “fabulous in floral”.
I love a party with a dress code, it puts everyone on the same playing field, plus it kinda makes it a lot easier to figure out what to wear.
This dress code request was particularly clear, so there was no confusion. As with every party we get invited to, the usual problem is finding the perfect outfit. Now my problem wasn’t finding a floral dress to wear, it was choosing a single floral dress out of my wardrobe. I think everything I own has some floral detail and definitely has the colour pink in it.
Few days leading up to the party, same question was on everybody’s lips, “what is Tolu going to wear?” Lmao. Tbh I couldn’t decide on what to wear, until the very last minute.
I let my makeup choose my outfit.
I actually made this floral crop top and pencil skirt for my high school reunion last year, then I thought it was probably too flashy for that, so I opted for something with a little more black.
This was the perfect outfit for my sister’s floral-themed launch party.
Something I realised at the party is that more and more people are beginning to appreciate African fashion, almost everyone had a ‘made in Nigeria’ outfit on. Seriously, this is the best time to start a clothing line, and if you ever need a factory to produce for you, visit @boojahclothingfactory. Thank me later.
I will update this post as soon as I get the professional photos. xoxo
Happy birthday again to my sister.
